Apprenticeship / Indigenous Apprenticeship training programme

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

At Macdonald Floor we believe we are leaders in the floor covering industry when it comes to training apprentices.

Since our inception we have successfully trained and completed over 20 apprentices since our inception.

When we partnered with TFIA as our apprenticeship training provider and VECCI apprenticeship services as the facilitator we really have not looked back.

We give you the opportunity to learn a trade that really is one of the highest paid in Australia with installers who basically work as subcontractors earning well in excess of 100 k on average annually, You will work for that money as it is physical work but the rewards are there and we work under an enterprise bargaining agreement with the CFMEU construction division of Victoria so all apprentices are paid well above national awards.

Certificate 3 in flooring technology is generally done over 4 years and we will request that an applicant has a year 11 pass and a driver’s license that would be our minimum requirement , At times we have employed apprentices who haven’t meet these criteria if we felt they were right for us.

The training program that is nationally recognised is an ( on the job ) type training programme were apprentices do not go to trade school, They learn on the job and are assessed by TFIA trade assessors quarterly with offsite modules completed during normal work hours.

Apprentices employed by us undertake there offsite training in our office and training area in our factory in Epping, This is generally 1 day per month but with the flexibility to change if required due to workload or lack of it from time to time giving flexibility to both employer and apprentice either way the training is strictly undertaken in normal working hours by the apprentice

In 2021 we initiated an indigenous youth programme to employ 1 indigenous youth per year as an apprentice and thus far this has been very successful for both our business, indigenous youth apprentice and our non indigenous apprentices,

In 2023 we will be enhancing this programme with a mentoring role from prominent and respected members of the community providing advice and leadership to our company, employees and apprentices
